ASEM DUO-Belgium/Wallonia-Brussels Grant

 

 

           PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE COMPLETING THE APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

 

This ASEM DUO-Belgium/Wallonia-Brussels grant programme is :

 

Intended mainly for lecturers / professors who are members of the academic or scientific staff of a higher education institution of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (university, haute école (university college) or école supérieure des arts (university-level school of art) and of an equivalent-level institution in Asia .

The nationality of the lecturer / professor is not a criterion for eligibility.

 

The awarding of these grants is open to all fields of activity.  Nevertheless, the preferred fields are as follows :

·         transport and logistics ;

·         mechanical engineering ;

·         life sciences ;

·         agro-industry ;

·         space aeronautics ;

·         environmental technologies.

- There is no text limit on writing your application.

 

- Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

 

- For reasons of convenience, please do not use staples, paper clips or double-sided copies.

 

- In all correspondence with WBI, please always state the type of grant for which you have applied as well as the destination country.

    

 

Documents to be enclosed with the application

 

E A copy of the inter-institutional agreement between the WBF institution and the Asian institution

or the declaration of intention to sign one within the next 2 years ;

 

E a copy of the applicant’s passport or national identity card ;

 

E a copy of the degrees of the  applicant lecturer / professor.

 

 

Type of programme

 

Mobility grants intended for lecturers / professors for a minimum period of 1 month (and maximum 3 months depending on the budgetary funds available) during the academic year 2014-2015

 

 

Fields

 

The preferred fields are :

 

·         transport and logistics ;

·         mechanical engineering ;

·         life sciences ;

·         agro-industry ;

·         space aeronautics ;

·         environmental technologies.

 

Any other field may be considered.

 

 

Countries concerned

 

Australia, India, Japan, South Korea.

 

Submission of applications

 

Important note : when submitting the application, the appendices must be enclosed with it (see above “Documents to be enclosed”).

Very important notes :

 

  1. As the applications that are transmitted are sometimes very large, we would ask you to ensure that they are in compressed .zip format, (not .rar) or in .pdf format. This will avoid our server refusing excessively large e-mails.  Files of more than 10 Mb are refused.  In that case, please use a host Website. Please also ensure that the application transmitted is in one file, not document by document, except for letters of recommendation, which should be sent separately, also by e-mail.  
  1. You are also asked to choose a single method of sending, either by post or electronically, to avoid us receiving the same application twice.

Application submission deadlines

 

E 30th June 2014 at the latest for the academic year 2014-2015

 

Applications submitted after the deadlines will not be accepted.

  

Applicants not selected, based on the eligibility criteria set out above, will be informed by 31st July at the latest.

  

 

Selection

 

WBI selects the applications in collaboration with all of the scientific, academic and institutional partners involved in the programme.

 

The selection panel is comprised of members 

 

  1. of the Ministry of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (DGENORS / Directorate-General for Non-compulsory Education and Scientific Research) ;
  2. of the Directorate-General operational “Economy, Employment and Research” of the Walloon Public Service (DG06);
  3. of the NFSR (National Fund for Scientific Research) ;
  4. of WBI ;
  5. and, possibly, of an expert on Asia

When making the selection, their decision is based on the following criteria, among others :

 

E Preferred fields already mentioned above;

E Interest of the field for our universities and research centres ;

E Language skills.

 

These criteria enable a classification to be made into three categories A-B-C.  Only applications marked A by at least one of the panel members will be considered for selection.  Sub-categories  (A- and A+) are also created in category A.

   

 

Visa

 

The recipient will have to apply to the Belgian diplomatic post of his / her country for a visa. To this end, he / she will receive, from WBI, confirmation of the awarding of the grant in order to facilitate the process.

 

   Financial terms and conditions

 

The duration and the amount of the grants awarded to the lecturers / professors are standardised :

  • The period must be at least one month.
  • The amount of the total grant awarded to the “Mobility in PAIRS” project comes to 6,000€ a month for both lecturers / professors, that is 3,000€ per lecturer / professor.
  • This amount is intended to cover all the costs relating to the mobility.

   

Report on the recipient’s stay

 

Two months, at the latest, after the end of the programme, the recipient is required to write a report on plain paper of no more than 2 or 3 pages. This will mention the conditions of the stay in the relevant country (programme carried out, conditions of the stay, suggestions, etc.). This document will help to highlight the advantages of the programme followed as well as any weaknesses. It will serve as a documentary reference for future recipients.

   

WBI will pass this report on to all the scientific, academic and institutional partners involved in the programme.

 

Register of former awardees of the grants

 

The recipient agrees to being included on a register drawn up by WBI and to keep the latter informed of how his / her career progresses.
